2023 NHL Draft’s top prospect Adam Fantilli to return to Chicago Steel for 2021-22 season
Adam Fantilli will return to Chicago Steel for the 2021-22 season, Steel general manager Ryan Hardy confirmed to Corey Pronman from Athleticism.
Forward Fantilli has 36 points (18 goals, 18 assists) in 49 regular season games with the Steel. The 16-year-old added nine points (eight goals, one assist) in eight playoff games to be named the 2021 Clark Cup Playoff MVP for the USHL Champions.
He played last season with his brother, Luca Fantilli, who will play next season at the University of Michigan.
Adam Fantilli could have chosen to join the OHL’s Saginaw Spirit next season. Spirit selected him in the first round (No. 18 overall) of the 2020 OHL Priority Draft Draft.
Fantilli and WHL Regina Pats forward Connor Bedard are considered the top prospects for the 2023 NHL Draft.
Fantilli will be the Steel’s returning top scorer after losing their top six scorers to the NCAA. Outlook Sean Farrell and Matt Coronato are heading to Harvard, Josh Doan is heading to Arizona State, Erik Middendorf is heading to Michigan State, Ryan Ufko is heading to UMass and Matthew Samoskevich is heading to Michigan.
Fantilli will look to lead the Steel to become the first USHL franchise to repeat as the Clark Cup champion since the Omaha Lancers accomplished the feat in 1994.
