Plan price

Compared to competitors’ plans, 24PetWatch is quite expensive. The limits also cap at $ 20,000 per year and are offered at a high rate that exceeds what many insurers charge for unlimited annual benefits.

Wellness riders come at an equally high price. It is definitely worth checking the limits of each service included in this plan with your vet’s price list before purchasing, as your local clinic fees may not come close to meeting the costs. 24PetWatch annual welfare expenses.

Waiting periods

Unlike most pet insurers, 24PetWatch begins injury coverage on the day the policy goes into effect without requiring any waiting time. Sickness benefits become valid on the 14th day, which is more in line with industry standards.

There are a few exceptions that may become eligible for treatment after just two days, including ear and eye infections and some parasite-related illnesses. Musculoskeletal conditions such as hip dysplasia are covered as illnesses and do not require the six month to one year waiting period imposed by many competitors.

Pre-existing conditions

If your pet shows signs of injury or illness before your policy start date or during a waiting period, the underlying condition will be considered. pre-existing and 24PetWatch will likely refuse to pay the related veterinary fees. This is why the provider requires a review within the first 30 days of coverage; if conditions are detected, they will be deleted as pre-existing for the life of the policy.

Conditions that are successfully treated and that remain undetectable for at least 24 months may no longer be considered pre-existing with 24PetWatch. This is an interesting benefit that is not offered by all pet insurers, although those who follow a similar program usually shorten the cost. curable exclusion period at six or 12 months.

Coverage limits

the annual limits available through 24PetWatch start at $ 3,000 and go up to $ 20,000. While most of the competing providers with premium policies offer a plan with unlimited annual benefits, 24PetWatch is not one of them.

An upper limit of $ 20,000 is as good as unlimited for the vast majority of pets, but with such a premium price, we’re still hoping for more from 24PetWatch. If you are comparing quotes for equivalent coverage among providers, don’t be afraid to look at 24PetWatch with an annual limitless policy.

Plan exclusions

There isn’t much that 24PetWatch is excluding from its plans in terms of coverage. However, there are serious limitations related to the age of the animal when registering. Dogs over 10 and cats over 12 cannot purchase a policy, even under the most basic types of coverage. It’s much older than most pet parents choose to purchase insurance, but since most comparable companies allow enrollments at any age, we don’t see why 24PetWatch can’t join them.

Complaints

24PetWatch prefers customers to submit complaints through the MyPethealth portal, an online platform that also shows you the status of your complaint and allows you to browse your complaint history. The vendor has done away with paper complaint forms altogether, although PDF forms can be emailed or faxed.

Customer service

The insurance claims service is available Monday through Friday 24PetWatch by phone, email, and chat, but we should note that our attempt to contact the company via live chat during business hours went unanswered. If you need to contact 24PetWatch regarding your missing pet’s recovery services, a separate 24/7 hotline is available for that purpose.

Third Party Notes

24PetWatch obtains an A + rating from Better Business Bureau. That said, there have been several dozen complaints over the past three years, and there is a noticeable trend related to the provider’s free trial practices. According to the complaints, 24PetWatch is issuing 30-day trials to people who adopt from certain shelters across the United States, but has a habit of continuing to charge those customers for coverage without notice. If you buy 24PetWatch through a local shelter, make sure you know the deadline to cancel your free trial.

The policies are underwritten by Crum & Forster, a property and casualty insurer with an A rating of AM Best.Crum & Forster also supports the policies of other pet insurance companies like Hartville.

Competition: 24PetWatch vs Pet Partners

24Petwatch’s comparison with its competitors Pet Partners is a perfect illustration of how insurance premiums can vary from provider to provider for comparable coverage. When we compared quotes for comparable mid-level plans for a two-year-old dog, 24PetWatch returned a monthly price of $ 41.79, while Pet Partners got just over half that rate at 23. $ 12. 24PetWatch may offer a few types of bonus coverage like trip cancellation and boarding fees, but we don’t see enough difference to justify paying double the premium amount each year.

Final verdict

24PetWatch is one of the more expensive pet insurers in the industry, but other than a handful of unique perks, there’s not much to explain these sky-high premiums. The supplier also places heavy restrictions on new registrations, requiring all pets to undergo a veterinary exam within 30 days of the policy’s effective date and prohibiting older pets from registering. . There’s nothing wrong with getting a quote from 24PetWatch, but we won’t be holding our breath that the company will be able to match the prices for comparable coverage from its competitors.
