AMT’s A20X aluminum powder secures aerospace reconnaissance
Aluminum Materials Technologies (AMT), Worcester, UK, achieved aerospace recognition with the publication of the AMS7033 standard for its high strength, high temperature A20X aluminum powder for additive manufacturing. The AMS7033 specification covers the aluminum alloy in pre-alloy powder form, enabling the AM of the aerospace components of the A20X.
AMT explained to Metal AM magazine, that it became an Eckart / Altana company in September 2020, and that Eckart being one of the top three aluminum atomizers in the world, the combined expertise has spurred the development of A20X powder.
The atomized alloy is compatible with the majority of major AM machines and is actively used in environments that require the high temperature and high strength properties of the A20X. The additively manufactured components exhibit excellent fatigue properties and resistance to stress corrosion cracking.
Based on the patented MMPDS aerospace approved aluminum alloy A205, A20X atomized alloy powder (2A05.50) has the same composition as its parent. A20X is now in production of flying components with aerospace OEMs, T1 suppliers, AM offices and many universities.
The publication of AMS7033 would be the culmination of extensive and in-depth discussions with additive manufacturing experts, including members of leading aerospace companies, who ensure the accuracy of the specification. The company believes that the granting of AMS7033 further illustrates that A20X powder is a leading aluminum powder in the aerospace market.
