Everton make £ 20million offer for Norwich star Godfrey
Everton are in pursuit of Ben Godfrey of Norwich City, the Championship club having recently received an official offer from the Toffees.
The Premier League side have submitted a £ 20million ($ 26million) offer for the 22-year-old center-back, with the offer also including a potential £ 6million ($ 8million) of complements.
Everton had previously been interested in Chelsea star Fikayo Tomori, who had considered a loan that would bring the defender to Goodison Park for the season.
Godfrey has been with Norwich since 2015, after joining York City after making 12 League Two appearances.
He went on to play for the club’s Under-23s and on loan with Shrewsbury Town, making 51 total appearances during his one-season stint in League One.
He broke through for Norwich in 2018-19 in the league, scoring four goals in 36 games as the Canaries were promoted to the Premier League.
That stint only lasted one season, with Norwich undergoing relegation last season, but Godfrey was one of the many figures who caught the attention of Premier League clubs.
The 22-year-old defender made 33 appearances last season and has made three league appearances this season.
Internationally, Godfrey has played for England up to the U-21 level, having been the team’s captain heading into this summer’s U-21 Euros.
Tomori, meanwhile, has fallen down the pecking order at Chelsea due to the arrival of summer signing Thiago Silva.
He made 22 appearances for the Blues in the last campaign, but did not make an official appearance for the February club at the end of the season as he fell out of Frank Lampard’s plans.
Tomori has made three appearances for the Blues so far this season, including two in Chelsea’s pair of Carabao Cup appearances: a win over Barnsley and a loss to Tottenham in a penalty shootout.
Godfrey and Norwich are set to face County Derby on Saturday, while Tomori’s Chelsea host Crystal Palace on the same day.
Everton, meanwhile, will host Brighton as they look to secure four out of four wins to start the season.
