New Delhi/IBNS: India’s total crude steel production capacity in 2020-21 stood at 143.91 million tonnes, Union Steel Minister Ram Chandra Prasad said on Monday Singh to Rajya Sabha.

The government has taken various measures to increase steel production in the country.

These are: Domestic Made Iron Notification &. Steel Products Policy (DMI&SP) for the promotion of Made in India Steel Sourcing; Notification of the scrap steel recycling policy to improve the availability of domestically produced scrap; Issuance of steel quality control orders to stop the manufacture and import of unstandardized steel; Steel Import Monitoring System (SIMS) for pre-registration of steel imports; Production Linked Incentive Scheme (PLI) for Special Steel with an expenditure of Rs 6,322 crore; Creation of a project development unit within the ministry to attract and facilitate investment in the steel sector.
