Italian crude steel production up 4.2% in October

Growth in steel production slowed in Italy in October this year.
According to provisional data from Federacciai, the association of Italian steel producers, crude steel production in the same month was 2.2 million tonnes, down 4.1% from September and in 4.2% year-on-year increase. In the previous seven months, all year-over-year increases had been in double digits. The slowdown was largely driven by soaring electricity costs, which in particular prompted FAE producers to cut production by shortening shifts and shutting down operations during peak hours. The October figure was thus in line with that of the same month of 2019.
During the January-October period of this year, Italian crude steel production exceeded 20.7 million tonnes, an increase of 24% compared to the same period last year and 4.6 % compared to the same period of 2019.
