MAJOR. Receives the RIAA’s first platinum award
MAJOR. has a special delivery from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). “Why I Love You”, produced by Harmony Samuels, was certified platinum, with over one million equivalent units sold.
Released as a double single in May 2016, the beautiful piano-laden track was a Major brilliance for MAJOR. It made a strong impression with R&B radio listeners (formerly Urban Adult Contemporary), resulting in a top five win on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart.
In an earlier 2016 interview with Keithan Samuels of Rated R&B, MAJOR. shared, he found the melodic inspiration for “Why I Love You” while on a web series set.
“I went to Harmony with him and he was like, ‘It’s a love song.’ And that’s where we came up with. [‘Why I Love You’] will be the model’s love song — not just with the melodies and instrumentation, but the conversation we have about love,” MAJOR said.
To date, “Why I Love You” has amassed over 24 million streams on Spotify. Its official music video has been viewed over 132 million times on YouTube.
In September 2021, MAJOR. released a spoken word album titled MAJOR. motives of hope, after single song “Doves are crying.” Three years before this project, he released his last album, Even more.
The 10-track LP, produced by Samuels, included the singles “Better With You In It” and “Love Me Ole” featuring Kris Kasanova.
