ATHENS, Alabama (AP) – An Ohio-based steel manufacturer is expanding its operations into Alabama.

Gregory Industries will invest $ 30 million to build a 325,000 square foot, 83 acre (33 hectare) facility in the Elm Industrial Park in Athens, Alabama. The new development will also create 100 manufacturing, maintenance and supervision jobs in the region.

Construction is expected to begin next March and operations will begin next fall, media reported.

Gregory Industries, based in Canton, Ohio, manufactures road safety products, metal profiles, tubing and other rolled steel products.

Managing Director Matt Gregory said the new facility would expand the company’s regional manufacturing capacity and allow it to grow and serve customers in the Southeast faster and more profitably.

“We are very excited to create more jobs and more businesses in Northern Alabama,” said Gregory.

Athens Mayor Ronnie Marks said the project was made possible through the teamwork of the city, Limestone County leaders and the Limestone County Economic Development Association.

“With all the growth our region is experiencing, this investment from Gregory Industries will also help provide the products needed for road safety projects. Working together as a city, utility, county and LCEDA team allows us to be successful in winning projects, ”said Marks.
