Queen’s Platinum Jubilee set to be UK’s biggest beauty pageant ever
Next year, Queen Elizabeth II will celebrate her Platinum Jubilee and she’s giving us all a four-day bank holiday weekend, as well as the ‘biggest’ UK beauty pageant ever, organizers say.
The four-day celebration – which is slated to take place between June 2-5, 2022 – has a budget of between £ 10m and £ 15m ($ 13m to $ 20m).
A “Platinum Pageant” is planned for the last day, which should feature the story of the Queen’s reign since 1952.
There would be performances from the greats, including a possible lineup including Elton John and Stevie Wonder.
According to Mirror, dragons the size of London buses could be built and military and NHS heroes will come together.
Basically it’s not to be missed.
Nicholas Coleridge, co-chair of the competition and president of the Victoria & Albert Museum, said more than 6,500 street artists are scheduled to take part in a street parade.
The show could walk through Westminster, under Admiralty Arch, the Mall, Buckingham Palace and Constitution Hill, with people from all over.
Mr Coleridge spoke at the Conservative Party conference in Manchester, where he said the event would be bigger than Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations in 1897.
He said: “This will be the biggest one ever put together, we think even bigger than the one put up for Queen Victoria.
“It won’t be London-centric. We even have a giant map, making sure we have people from all parts of our country and even all parts of the Commonwealth.
“We are going to have people from all 54 Commonwealth countries taking part in this incredible parade.”
On February 6, 2022, the Queen will have reigned as monarch for 70 years – the first time that a British sovereign has been on the throne in seven decades.
Throughout the year, the Queen and members of the Monarchy will travel the country to host a series of royal events to mark this historic milestone, culminating with Platinum Jubilee Weekend.
