South Africa’s Central Energy Fund Group (CEF) joins Africa Energy Week 2022 as Host National Oil Companies (NOCs) and Platinum Sponsor
As Africa seeks to accelerate its economic growth while ensuring access to energy for all, the optimal production and exploitation of the 125.5 billion barrels of crude oil and the 620 trillion cubic feet of reserves continent’s gas supply are essential, and African National Oil Companies (NOCs) have a vital role to play. In this regard, the African Energy Chamber (AEC) is proud to announce that South Africa’s state-owned energy company, the Central Energy Fund (CEF) – which itself has a mandate to end energy poverty in the continent by 2030 – will attend and participate in Africa Energy Week (AEW) (www.AECWeek.com) conference and exhibition – taking place October 18-21 in Cape Town – as host NOC and platinum sponsor. As host NOC and platinum sponsor of AEW 2022, CEF and its affiliates will welcome delegates, ministers and other NOCs to the largest energy gathering on the continent.
Representing Africa’s second largest and most industrialized economy, CEF’s participation as host NOC and platinum sponsor at AEW 2022 – Africa’s premier event for the oil and gas sector – will be crucial in shaping thoughtful discussions on how Africa can improve investments and developments across the entire energy value chain to be able to provide energy access to over 600 million people currently living without while powering a sustainable and long-term economic growth.
As the CEF Group works towards secure, reliable and affordable energy solutions for South Africa by 2030, the public company – through its various branches, including PetroSA; the Strategic Fuel Fund; oil and gas exploration and production company, iGas Energy; and the Petroleum Agency of South Africa – has been and continues to be instrumental in the growth of the energy sector in the Southern Africa region through partnerships with energy companies and regional investors and global.
With insufficient investment across the oil and gas value chain resulting in chronic energy shortages and high fuel prices on the continent, the CEF has become a driver of oil and natural gas development. in South Africa as well as across the African continent. Notably, as Mozambique and South Africa develop their national gas economies, CEF is one of the key players, promoting the integrated growth of the regional energy sector by developing, owning and operating the 865 km gas pipeline linking the two countries. . Together with the integrated energy and chemicals company Sasol, the CEF Group is also committed to reducing energy imports and ensuring long-term energy security in South Africa through increased production and use of the country’s gas resources.
“The Chamber is proud to have the CEF Group as the host NOC for this year’s edition of AEW 2022. The NOC’s presence at Africa’s biggest energy event is a strong testament to the work done by the AEC in partnership with African NOCs and energy market players to ensure a just energy transition for Africa through the exploitation of the continent’s oil and gas resources. We believe that Africa will prosper if it drills more oil and gas wells and exploits these resources for its energy needs is what the CEF and other NOCs will be discussing at AEW 2022,” says AEC Executive Chairman NJ Ayuk.
With CEF seeking appropriate energy solutions to address ongoing power shortages in South Africa through diversification of the energy mix, AEW 2022 presents the best platform for the host NOC to promote opportunities for partnerships with regional, continental and global energy companies and investors. As host NOCs and platinum sponsors of AEW 2022, senior CEF leaders will have access to exclusive panel discussions and networking forums where updates regarding the NOC’s current plans and future strategies in South Africa South and in the region will be shared.
