Steel Athletics Team Champions at Dry-Tri Fitness Event | Sports

Steel Athletics won the team event in the first annual Dry-Tri Series, which ended Saturday at the Nikko Guam Hotel.
The event included a road race plus time on the stationary bike and the rower. It is organized by Unified Gear and is a gym style triathlon with only running which required its athletes to leave the area.
It was the latest in a monthly series of three events, with winners determined by cumulative points. Over 70 athletes competed in the team, performance and fitness divisions.
âTwo reasons why we imagined this style of event. It’s social distancing friendly and it’s easily accessible at all fitness levels, âsaid Topher Barretto, president of Unified Gear.
âWe wanted to promote fitness in a fun way with everything that is going on. With the current health crisis in the world, it is more important than ever to start living better, âsaid Barretto.

Steel Athletics took first place in the tag team division. They shredded the final event en route to first place.
Team members Larry Steel, JJ Ambrose and Mike Bautista rode a 2 mile race, 8 mile bike and 3 mile line.
The event hardly started, with organizers closely monitoring the weather until after 8 p.m. Friday, then giving the go-ahead to competitors via social media. The day started out in the mud but the weather cleared up later, almost as good as the first two perfect weather events of the series.
âWe are really happy with the way things have gone. We thought for sure the Dry-Tri would be postponed due to the weather, but luckily the show continued, âsaid Ambrose, owner of Steel Athletics.
âI’m really proud of everyone who stepped out of their comfort zone, the members of Steel Athletics as well as other gyms in the community. These fitness-related events are pushing the health needle in the right direction, âhe said. âAt Steel, we are always happy to support health and fitness, for the betterment of the island. The victory was just the icing on the cake.
