Tata Steel renews partnership with PGTI – India Golf Weekly

In a massive boost for professional golf in India, Tata Steel has announced that it will continue as an umbrella partner of the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) for three years from the 2022 season. It is believed that the value sponsorship is higher than it was for the previous three years. The steelmaker, who is known for his commitment to building sports in India, also said he would double the prize money for the season-ending Tata Steel Tour Championship from Rs 1.5 crores to Rs 3 crores from this year, making it by far the richest national professional event in Indian golf history. Tata Steel became a tour sponsor of PGTI in 2019 when the tour was renamed Tata Steel PGTI. .

Uttam Singh Mundy, CEO of PGTI, said he was delighted with the extension of the partnership. “This development is a boost for PGTI as our continued association with Tata Steel will help Indian professional golf reach new heights in the years to come,” he said.
Tata Steel’s century-old association with sport dates back to Sir Dorabji Tata funding four athletes and two wrestlers for the 1920 Olympics in Antwerp, Belgium. The Company has created an array of facilities for each sports discipline, including a 9-hole golf course (Beldih) and an 18-hole golf course (Golmuri) in Jamshedpur, which have hosted several tournaments.
PGTI’s affiliation with the Official World Golf Ranking System (OWGR) enables more Indian players to have an impact on the world stage, as well as the world to recognize the caliber of talent that exists in India. Since joining the Official World Golf Ranking System in 2019 and partnering with Tata Steel, PGTI has become a de facto stepping stone for talented Indian golfers to join the top international tours.
