The SEEM Energy Management Awards are awarded to Vedanta Aluminum
India’s largest aluminum producer, Vedanta aluminum company received three awards for its energy efficiency in 2020. This took place at the SEEM National Energy Management Awards 2020, an organization that rewards Indian companies for their commitments to improve energy performance, which is available to watch online. Vedanta Aluminum was “India’s largest buyer of green energy in the first quarter of fiscal 22, having purchased 354 million units of solar and non-solar renewable energy for its aluminum smelter in Jharsuguda”.
Recognize achievements in energy management
The company received its Gold Awards for improving energy management at two of its aluminum smelters and the captive Jharsuguda power station, Odisha, which provides 1,215 MW of power generation. It is not the first time that Vedanta has been recognized. The captive power plant and the 2,400 MW thermal power plant both received operational excellence awards at the conference and 2021 thermal power plant operation and maintenance awards.
Vedanta Aluminum Business CEO Rahul Sharma, deals with the company’s energy management actions. “As India’s largest producer of aluminum, a 100% recyclable metal, we are aware of our responsibilities towards sustainability and climate action. We are working on this through a three-pronged strategy to ensure wise use of resources, energy-efficient operations and renewable energy supply, ”says Sharma.
Vedanta is dedicated to continuous improvement in energy management as it leads various initiatives to achieve this, including its Climate Action Roadmap, of which energy management is a key component and Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD)—Work also on carbon management within the framework of the TCFD.
“We have adopted global best practices in energy and resource management and deployed leading-edge solutions to reduce our carbon footprint. We are also exploring viable renewable energy supply options for the production of aluminum, the green metal, ”says Sharma.
Krishnakumar Ramanathan, Vice President and Head of Country Business at Siemens Limited, a company associated with Vedanta Aluminum for the integrated maintenance of its foundries, showed appreciation for Vedanta’s energy and carbon management practices. “Siemens has partnered with Vedanta Aluminum for the integrated maintenance of its foundry units in Jharsuguda for over a decade,” says Ramanathan.
